The centre square of Turnhout, the Market Square, is parking-free making it feel like one large terrace and is suitable for numerous events. The intimate city garden around the church is conceived as paths that run between green islands. The islands are bordered with precast customized concrete benches and provide a resting point in the lively city. Further on the square, at the fountain, there are free standing benches which have the same polished finish as the precast customized concrete benches. A strip of large-format tiles has been laid across the square, some of which have an engraved to make appear playing cards. Turnhout is known as the capital of playing cards hosting on the of the most famous company specialized in their production.
