New York’s Design Week, Joe Doucet’s Rely Bench on Times Square, New York

Location: Times Square, New York

Joe Doucet designed the Rely Bench in response to the New York Design Week and was installed on Times Square.

The debut of the Rely bench is a result of the design of New Yorker Joe Doucet, Victoria Milne of 6¢ design, Times Square Alliance and the Belgian partners in innovative 3D printing technology, Concrenetics, a leader in the emerging HyCoEx-technology in a joint venture with Urbastyle. The 3D printed Rely Bench by New Yorker Joe Douchet is also a protection of the public space against vehicle attacks. The various components of the Rely Bench are connected to each other with metal rods so that they remain one whole and form a barrier when impacted by a vehicle. With his design, Joe Doucet provides a discreet alternative to the intimidating barricades that feel rather military.
