Concrete urban elements - KØS Museum of urban Art, Køge, DENMARK

Location: Køge (DK)
Design: Artist Ann Lislegaard, in collaboration with landscape architect Sophie Sahlqvist

For the KØS Museum Plaza in Køge, bright white concrete urban elements such as benches, slabs and step units with a contrasting strip were manufactured.

KØS Museum is a museum is dedicated to art in public spaces and is located in the centre of Køge. Not only does the square provide the connection with the pedestrian street and the city, but it is also a dynamic square where events, exhibitions can be organized. The square only consists of concrete urban elements. Large size slabs, stairs, podiums, and benches are all executed in a bright white colour with a shot blasted (Ferro) finishing. This creates a white carpet of concrete urban elements with height differences. At the entrance the stairs have a built-in system that melts ice and snow at negative temperatures. These steps are also provided with visually contrasting strips based on an anthracite-coloured concrete.
