The grass-covered islands on the esplanade in front of Rotterdam Central Station are edged with polished border benches.
The new Rotterdam Central Station and the station square in front of it have been designed and constructed in one mega project. The result is a quiet esplanade without traffic from the station to the city centre. The green grass areas on the square are edged with border benches. Where the tram tracks cross the border benches, transition elements have been produced to ensure a smooth transition to ground level. The edges of the border benches are made with a bull nose so that less damage occurs and a more pleasant seating comfort is created. In this busy environment, the choice for a polished finish is appropriate as this finish is the most durable and easier to maintain.
